Free Wakesurf Equipment — Wakesurf Budapest
For free wakesurf equipment, Wakesurf Budapest offers the complete package on the Danube. At Wakesurf Budapest, we work with two premium wakesurf boats — Super Air Nautique G23 and ATX Type S 22 — at two locations (Wiking Yacht Club Marina and Budapest Yacht Club / Római-part), with professional instructors. Below we cover everything about free wakesurf equipment: boat specs (including the traditional and NSS™-controlled ballast systems), pricing tiers, and the booking process.
Additionally, free wakesurf equipment can also be combined with other services on the same booking: motorboat rental with captain, sunset cruises across the Budapest panorama, or full-day Danube Bend tour towards Szentendre, Visegrád and Esztergom. Finally, Wakesurf Budapest bookings have a 1-hour minimum, with per-minute billing afterwards — 4-hour weekday bookings get up to 20% discount.

Free wakesurf equipment — what to bring and not
First, good news: almost nothing — and that is the point. The hourly rate covers the entire free wakesurf equipment — board, life jacket, instructor, and out-of-season wetsuit. As a result, you only bring a swimsuit, towel, and sun gear. If you want details, here is the complete kit you’ll have access to and the small list of personal items you should pack.
🎁 What’s included in the free equipment?
- Wakesurf board — 3 types (skim, surf-style, hybrid), 2-3 sizes per type
- Life jacket — every size, child-XS to adult-XXL, US Coast Guard certified
- Wetsuit — out of season (mid-April and mid-October) for free loan
- Rashguard — UV-protective shirt if needed
1. Wakesurf board — what types are available?
Specifically, wakesurf boards come in three main categories:
- Surf-style board — longer (130-150 cm), thicker, modeled after ocean surfboards. More stable for beginners, slower turn response. Sits well under bigger waves.
- Skim-style board — shorter (110-130 cm), thinner, fast-turning. For pro riders and trick specialists.
- Hybrid board — middle size and character, all-purpose. Most schools and clubs use this with beginner-intermediate guests.
Overall, we carry all three types at Wakesurf Budapest, and the instructor selects the best match based on your level and body weight. Read more about wakesurf lessons and how the board is selected.
2. Life jacket
A life jacket is mandatory for wakesurf. Moreover, it helps you stay afloat while paddling and saves energy. We carry US Coast Guard certified jackets in every size (child-XS to adult-XXL). This is also included in your booking.
3. What should you wear?
Warm weather (24°C+)
- Swimsuit or boardshorts
- Sport bikini or full swimsuit OK
- Waterproof sunscreen
- Hat optional
Cooler weather (18-24°C)
- Thin wetsuit (1.5-2mm) recommended
- Or rashguard + boardshorts
- Available from us as free loan
Note that between mid-April and mid-October a wetsuit is recommended on the Danube. Therefore, we can lend you a 1.5-3mm wetsuit for free if needed.
4. What you DON’T need
- You don’t need your own board (we provide)
- You don’t need to know about ballast — the boat’s ballast system generates the wave automatically
- You don’t need a hat (but you can wear one)
- You don’t need swim goggles
- You don’t need prior knowledge or training
5. What you DO need to bring
- Swimsuit (or boardshorts)
- Towel
- Waterproof sunscreen, SPF 30+
- Spare clothes for after the session
- Waterproof phone/wallet pouch (or zip bag)
6. Bringing your own equipment — possible?
Of course! If you already own a wakesurf board or life jacket, feel free to bring it along. Many of our Surf Club members come with their own boards. As a bonus, Surf Club members get a private board storage at the marina.
For your first wakesurf experience, we strongly recommend using our equipment first — your instructor will help match you to the right board.
Wakesurf experience on the Danube — all our services in one place
In short, Wakesurf Budapest is the complete wakesurf, motorboat rental and sunset cruise provider in the city. We work with two premium wakesurf boats on the Danube: models built by Super Air Nautique and ATX Boats. Furthermore, both boats run a traditional or NSS™-controlled ballast system, so the wakesurf wave character can be fine-tuned in minutes — ranging from beginner-friendly to competition-grade steep waves.
Our motorboat rental with captain option means you can come home with more than just a wakesurf experience: sunset cruises, city sightseeing on the Danube, Danube Bend tour (Szentendre, Visegrád, Esztergom) are also available on the same boats. For example, for group events (bachelor parties, corporate days, birthdays, family programs) we especially recommend the private booking system — indeed, a 4-hour weekday booking gives up to 20% discount.
